PRODUCT GUIDE

HOW TO USE WEB BLOCKER

Block the sites that distract you, make sure blocking is active, see what worked, and add stronger protection only when you need it.

STEP-BY-STEP BASICS

START WITH ONE DISTRACTING WEBSITE

You do not need to configure everything at once. Start with one site you open when you should be doing something else.

1

ADD THE SITE

Open Block List, enter the website address (for example, youtube.com), and add it to your list.

2

MAKE SURE BLOCKING IS ACTIVE

If the site shows “Awaiting activation”, install or enable the Web Blocker Chrome extension. A saved site is not blocked until the extension is active.

3

TEST IT

Open the website in Chrome. If the Web Blocker block screen appears, your basic protection is working.

THAT IS ENOUGH TO START
You can add a password, review analytics, or change more settings later only if they help you.
ARCHITECTURE EXPLAINED

WEBSITE + EXTENSION: WHAT EACH PART DOES

Web Blocker consists of two connected parts working together: your control dashboard on the web and the Chrome extension in your browser.

WEBSITE / DASHBOARD

Use the website to manage your Block List, protection settings, analytics, notifications, voting, and other Web Blocker controls.

SYNC

CHROME EXTENSION

The extension applies your blocking rules while you browse in Chrome and renders the focus block screen when an attempt occurs.

SEE “AWAITING ACTIVATION”?
The website is saved in your Block List, but blocking is not active yet. Install or enable the extension, then test the website again in your browser.
SETUP STATUS

YOUR PROTECTION: UNDERSTAND THE STATUS

Your Protection shows how complete your current Web Blocker setup is. It is a setup indicator — not a score of your willpower and not a promise that a restriction can never be bypassed.

0%

NO SITES YET

Add your first distracting website to get started.

!

AWAITING ACTIVATION

Your sites are saved, but the Chrome extension is not active. Turn it on first.

50%

PARTIAL SETUP

Basic blocking is working. Add a password if you want more friction.

100%

FULL PROTECTION

Your setup includes a Block List, an active extension, and a password.

WHAT “FULL PROTECTION” REALLY MEANS
“Full Protection” means the current setup is complete. It does not mean Web Blocker is impossible to disable or bypass.
CORE FUNCTIONALITY

BLOCK LIST: CHOOSE WHAT WEB BLOCKER SHOULD STOP

Use Block List for websites that repeatedly pull you away from what you intended to do.

Add a website

Enter a domain such as youtube.com and add it to the list.

Toggle ON / OFF

ON — blocking is enabled. OFF — the site stays in your list, but blocking is temporarily paused. If protected by a password, Web Blocker will ask for confirmation.

Delete

Delete removes the website from your list. Password verification may be required if active.

Duplicate / Invalid entries

Web Blocker rejects invalid addresses and skips sites already present in your list.

REDDIT.COM Awaiting activation

START SMALL
Do not block every website you use. Start with the few sites that most often interrupt your work or study, then adjust the list from real experience.
STRICTNESS & FRICTION

PASSWORD: ADD FRICTION ONLY WHEN YOU NEED IT

A password is optional. Basic website blocking does not require it. Use password protection if you notice that you keep turning blocking off, deleting sites, or changing your rules in the moment.

LEVEL 1: MINDFUL AVAILABLE

Best when you only need a small pause before changing your own rules.

  • Simple password protection
  • 1-second mindful pause delay
* More protection levels (Level 3: Deep Focus, Level 4: Unbreakable) are shown as Coming soon in Web Blocker and are not available yet.
WHICH LEVEL SHOULD I USE?
Start with basic blocking. If you keep undoing your own rules, try Mindful. If that is still too easy to ignore, move to Habit Breaker. Always use the lightest level that actually helps you.
ANALYTICS FRAMEWORK

OVERVIEW: TWO VIEWS FOR TWO DIFFERENT QUESTIONS

Web Blocker separates immediate daily progress from deeper attention diagnosis so you can check your status without getting overwhelmed.

DAILY PULSE
What worked today?

Use Daily Pulse for a quick, positive check of today’s blocking result and daily motivation.

FOCUS AUDIT
Where is my time actually going?

Use Focus Audit when you want to understand distraction patterns across days and decide what to change.

DAILY PROGRESS

DAILY PULSE: SEE WHAT WORKED TODAY

Open Daily Pulse when you want to see whether your boundaries held today without analyzing complex spreadsheets.

01. Your Goal (100% Progress Bar)

What to do: monitor daily discipline fulfillment. The 100% bar shows that all active rules were respected today without bypasses.

02. Focus Ring & Status

What to do: view your protected session ratio. The green arc represents stopped distractions (92%), orange marks bypasses, and the badge confirms focus quality.

03. Time Saved (+42 min)

What to do: gauge preserved productive time. An estimate of minutes saved by stopping distraction triggers before mindless browsing began.

04. Recent Blocks (14 times)

What to do: track intervention frequency. Counts the exact number of attempts to open restricted sites that Web Blocker successfully intercepted today.

ATTENTION AUDIT

FOCUS AUDIT: UNDERSTAND WHERE YOUR TIME GOES

Use Focus Audit when you want to look deeper than today’s result and understand which websites are taking your attention across days or weeks.

01. Period Filters (Today / 7 Days / 30 Days / Custom)

What to do: switch time presets with one click. Compare today's focus with your 7-day or 30-day habits, or pick a precise custom date range using the calendar.

02. Top Distractions & Quick Add (+)

What to do: spot heavy time drains instantly. Click the circular «+» button next to any website to immediately add it to your Block List without typing the URL.

03. Time Lost to Distractions

What to do: monitor unbudgeted screen time. This card sums the hours and minutes spent strictly on domains categorized as "Distracting".

04. Bypassed & Impulse Rate

What to do: track self-control consistency. "Bypassed" counts unlocks. "Impulse Rate" (% of bypasses per visit attempts) reveals rule stability: lower percentage means stronger focus.

05. Time Spent by Website: Comparative Chart

What to do: visually contrast domain activity across Productive, Neutral, and Distracting sites. Displays Total Screen Time and Unclassified volume side by side.

06. Screen Time Audit & Categories

What to do: search visited domains, sort by time spent or bypasses, toggle chart comparison, and organize sites into Productive, Distracting, Neutral, or Unclassified.

DO NOT TRY TO OPTIMIZE EVERYTHING AT ONCE
Look for one repeated distraction. Change one rule. Use Web Blocker for a while. Then check whether the pattern changed.
BACKUP & MIGRATION

IMPORT / EXPORT: SAVE OR MOVE YOUR BLOCK LIST

Keep a secure backup copy of your rules or easily transfer your configuration between different browsers.

EXPORT BLOCK LIST .TXT

Export saves your current Block List as a simple text file. Use it as a backup or when you want to keep an external copy of your list.

IMPORT BLOCK LIST RESTORE

Import adds websites from a text file back into your Block List (one site per line). Websites already in your list and invalid entries are automatically skipped.

BEST PRACTICE

A SIMPLE WAY TO USE WEB BLOCKER

Building sustainable digital discipline does not require configuring dozens of complicated rules. Follow this simple 5-step loop:

01

Analyze

Identify 2–3 websites that repeatedly distract you from work or study and add them to your list.

02

Choose Level

Start with basic blocking or add password friction only if you notice yourself undoing rules.

03

See Result

Check your saved hours in Daily Pulse and discover attention patterns inside Focus Audit.

04

Give Feedback

If a site fails to block or an interaction feels off, tell us directly via feedback channels.

05

Improve Together

Vote for the tools you need in the public roadmap and help shape Web Blocker around your goals.

OPEN DEVELOPMENT CONTINUATION
If Web Blocker does not solve the specific focus challenge you have, send feedback or vote for what should be built next.
DIAGNOSTIC CHECKLIST

IF BLOCKING DOES NOT START

If a distracting website is still opening, go through this simple 5-point verification checklist:

DATA PROTECTION

YOUR BROWSING DATA STAYS PRIVATE

Web Blocker follows a local-first approach for browsing and activity data. Your Block List, raw browsing history, passwords, PIN codes, and private page content are never sent to analytics or external servers.

READY TO PUT IT INTO PRACTICE?

Start with one distracting website. You can adjust the rest when you actually need it.
