1. What Data We Process and Where It Is Stored
At Web Blocker (the web service and Android application offered under the Web Blocker brand), we believe in data minimization. We do not require registration to use the service, and we do not store your blocklist data on our servers. Below is the detailed breakdown of how your data is handled:
A. Data Stored Locally on Your Device (Privacy-First)
Your blocklist, protection settings, and preferences are stored exclusively on your device: in browser local storage (localStorage and IndexedDB) for the web version and in Android internal storage for the application. This data is never transmitted to our servers and remains under your full control.
- Blocklist Settings: Blocked site URLs, protection mode, and password settings.
- Interface Preferences: Selected language, color theme, and display preferences.
- Local Android Statistics: The matched blocked domain and the time of the blocking event. Allowed addresses and full browsing history are not stored.
B. Android Accessibility Permission
After a separate prominent disclosure and your affirmative consent, the Android application may use an AccessibilityService. It reads the address-bar text only in the supported browsers listed in the app, extracts the domain locally, compares it with your local blocklist, and closes the page when a match is found. It does not collect page contents, keystrokes, passwords, messages, or data from other apps. Addresses that do not match your blocklist are neither stored nor transmitted. You can disable this access at any time in Android Accessibility settings.
C. Data Stored on Our Servers (Only via Active Requests)
The only data stored on our servers is the information you actively send to us when requesting help or providing feedback:
- Support Requests: If you use our Contact Us form, we collect your email address, the classification of the issue, your message, and basic browser metadata to help resolve your inquiry.
D. De-identified Data Sent to Third-Party Processors
We use third-party analytics and error monitoring on the website and Chrome extension to understand traffic, detect failures, and improve usability. These systems are not embedded in the Android application:
- Google Analytics (GA4) [Google LLC, USA]: Receives de-identified IP addresses, page views, and click events to analyze global usage trends. For more details, review Google's Privacy Policy or opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
- Yandex Metrika [Yandex LLC, Russia]: Collects browser type, screen resolution, scroll depth, and interaction maps to fix display bugs. For more details, review Yandex's Privacy Policy.
- Sentry [Functional Software, Inc., USA; EU data region]: Receives error details, the Web Blocker version, diagnostic codes, browser, operating system, and locale so we can reproduce failures in the website and Chrome extension. We configure Web Blocker not to send blocklists, browsing history, full visited URLs, passwords, recovery codes, email addresses, or feedback text to Sentry. Duplicate reports are limited, and technical events are retained according to the active Sentry account retention policy. For more details, review Sentry's Privacy Policy.
2. How We Use and Share Information
We use your data to maintain core blocking functionality, optimize the service for your device, and provide technical support. We guarantee that:
- Your contact details and support messages will never be sold, rented, or shared with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.
- We do not sell or share your personal data within the meaning of the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).
3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)
If you reside in the European Economic Area (EEA), our legal grounds for processing your data under GDPR include:
- Performance of a Contract: Providing you with the core functionality of the Web Blocker service (saving settings locally).
- Consent: When you voluntarily submit a support ticket via the contact form.
- Legitimate Interests: Improving our service features, analyzing site usage, and ensuring website security.
4. Cookies and Local Storage
We use cookies and browser local storage to maintain core functionality. Cookies set by our third-party analytics partners (Google and Yandex) help us distinguish unique users and count website visits. You can manage or disable cookies via your browser settings at any time, though some settings on the website may reset.
5. Data Retention
- Local Data: Blocklists, settings, and local statistics remain on your device until you clear the website/application data or uninstall the Android application.
- Support Tickets: Information submitted via contact forms is retained on our servers only for as long as necessary to resolve your request and maintain support history, up to a maximum of 12 months.
6. Your Privacy Rights & Data Deletion
Depending on your location (such as the EU/EEA under GDPR, or California under CCPA/CPRA), you have the right to access, correct, restrict, or request erasure of your data. You can exercise these rights as follows:
- To delete or request a copy of your support communication history stored on our servers, please contact us at support@webblockerapp.com. We will process your request within 30 days.
- Since your blocklist settings are stored strictly locally, we have no access to them. Delete web-version data through your browser/site settings. Delete Android data through “Settings → Apps → Web Blocker → Storage → Clear data” or by uninstalling the application.
7. Children's Privacy
Our service is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or 16 in the EU/EEA) without parental consent. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you become aware that a child has sent us a support message containing personal data without parental guidance, please contact us to have it deleted.
8. Security and Transfers
Data you voluntarily send through the website, such as support requests, is transmitted over HTTPS and stored in protected systems. Local blocklists and Android application statistics are not transmitted to our servers. Support requests may be processed outside your home country with appropriate safeguards.
